REDFERN, GADIGAL LAND: After months of planning and hard work, we are proud to announce that Women’s and Girls’ Emergency Centre (WAGEC) is partnering with Bras N Things to empower women and children to build safe futures. The partnership contributes to the global movement to end gender-based violence and aims to create communities where women and families are safe to confidently be themselves.
When women and their families arrive at WAGEC, they may have very few material possessions. When leaving a violent situation, packing too many items – no matter how essential – can often be too conspicuous. To help address this need, Bras N Things have created comfort packs for the women living in our crisis shelters. The comfort pack include pyjamas, bras, undies and socks; essential items that help restore a sense of normality and dignity after experiences of homelessness and/or domestic violence.
“We are excited to launch this partnership with Bras N Things because we know the tangible and positive impact it’s going to have for hundreds of women and children. This partnership will support the immediate needs of women living in our shelters who have experienced homelessness and domestic violence and also plays an important part in the wider issue of addressing gender inequality.
Gender-based violence is everyone’s business and to achieve the goal of ending it in one generation is going to take all of us working together as a community, which is why partnerships like this are so important. Providing survivors with brand new, high quality products in the comfort packs is a small but meaningful way of restoring dignity for women and their families who have experienced homelessness or domestic violence. So, while it may seem like a small thing to buy new PJs to fund these comfort packs, each of these individual acts add up to make a big impact over time.” – Helen Silvia, CEO of WAGEC.
Early in our time working together, we quickly came to realise our shared values and goals with Bras N Things: to empower all women and families in our communities. We have already been overwhelmed by Bras N Things enthusiasm and commitment to support WAGEC’s clients and to help end gender-based violence. WAGEC is grateful to be working with Bras N Things and to be embarking on this partnership journey together. Thank you to everyone who has been involved so far, we can’t wait to see the positive impact that we know we can have together.
